5 things I am grateful for:

"Happiness Is a Choice" is the title of a book I read in college. I do not remember what the book said, but the title stuck in my mind reminding me, "I get to choose happiness- EVERYDAY!"

Happiness does not happen, it is chosen. Our focus determines our happiness. We see what we focus on, we hear what we focus on, we think about what we focus on, we live out what we focus on.

Have you ever been in a place where there are so many sounds and chosen one sound to focus on? At night if we go outside, we can hear cars passing by, crickets humming, maybe voices from a neighbor...if we choose to listen to just one of these, it becomes much more clear and we can choose to block out the other noises.

Our thoughts are much like this, we can choose which thoughts to focus on.

For instance:

We can focus on failures of yesterday or hope for today,
We can focus on something negative said to us or something life-giving.
We can focus on ourselves (our disappointments) or reaching out to others.
We can listen to what God says about us or the negatives we tell ourselves.

"He knows us far better than we know ourselves...That's why we can be sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something GOOD." (Rom. 8:27-28 MSG)

Every detail He works into GOOD, so we can choose hope and happiness.

Jesus, I choose happiness today. I give You all of the things in my mind that I focus on that steals that happiness. I invite YOU to live my moments with me.
