Awed by Forgiveness

“With the arrival of Jesus, the Messiah, that fateful dilemma is resolved. Those who enter into Christ’s being-here-for us no longer have to live under a continuous, low-lying black cloud. A new power is in operation. The Spirit of life in Christ, like a strong wind, has magnificently cleared the air, freeing you from a fated lifetime of brutal tyranny at the hands of sin and death.  God went for the jugular when he sent his own Son. He didn’t deal with the problem as something remote and unimportant. In his Son, Jesus, he personally took on human condition, entered the disordered mess of struggling humanity in order to set it right once and for all…instead of redoubling our own efforts, simply embrace what the Spirit is doing in us.” (Romans 8:1-4 Message Bible)

Awed by forgiveness, for forgiveness means that we do not have to live in sin, guilt, shame, paying penance…Forgiveness means that we can choose to come before the Father and ask forgiveness for a wrong choice, thought, or action. Before His throne, we can change! With Him, we can leave our sin or darkness and the guilt that tries to follow.

I find myself awed by the love story of Jesus! His choice to come rescue us, means that we no longer have to live a life of regret or shame, but we can embrace new life. This was never meant to be a license to sin, but instead a free slate for God to begin a new story in our lives.

In my teens and early twenties, I was stuck in the cycle of eating disorder addiction (starve, binge purge, excess exercise), I felt such guilt and shame. I felt that healthy living was a lifetime away. When God’s love, not performance based Christian living, got a hold on my heart change started happening. Change happened one day at a time, repeatedly, my healing road was not perfect. Yet guilt and shame could not follow the forgiveness that the love of God offered. Freedom followed embracing what forgiveness means, freedom from sin, guilt, shame, unhealthy living…living wrapped in the Love of God.

What does forgiveness mean to you?

Jesus,
Thank you so much for choosing to come to earth to live, die, and rise again, so that I could be free from the hold of sin, shame, and guilt. I ask You to forgive my sin, remove the guilt and shame that try to taunt me or keep me stuck in an unhealthy cycle. Thank you for Your grace and for Your great love. In Your Name
