“Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.” (Acts 20:32 NIV)
Anxious thoughts steal the fun, peace, joy in our lives and leaves us tired, stressed, and overwhelmed. I encountered this verse when our oldest son Owin started to drive. As I found myself watching life 360 obsessively, I thought, “There has to be a better way!”
Entrusting is a choice. Speaking this verse over myself and my children creates peace and extinguishes my anxious thoughts. I love the Amplified Bible Version. I find myself saying this verse throughout the day for each of my kids and their situations. “And now Owin, Addi, Eben, JohnE, Anden, I commit you to God [I deposit you in His charge, entrusting you to His protection and care]. And I commend you to the Word of His grace [to the commands and counsels and promises of His unmerited favor]. It is able to build you up and to give you [your rightful] inheritance among all God’s set-apart ones (those consecrated, purified, and transformed of soul).” In Jesus' name. (Acts 20:32 AMPC)
Praying this verse daily changed my life and continues to shape my thinking. The gift of entrusting our children and teens into God’s care is life-changing. When we entrust our kids into His care, we can take a deep breath and realize God is in control. He loves our kids even more than we do.
This simple prayer is a prayer of surrender and trust, which results in a peace settling deep in my soul. When I entrust, I like myself better! It’s no fun to live in my brain when I’m anxious.
Self Reflection:
- Is it difficult to entrust instead of worry?
- Is worry a habit? Is it helping?
- Am I willing to start each day by saying this verse over myself and my loved ones?
Prayer:
Here is a simple version, “And now (fill in the blank with your loved one’s name), I commit you to God. I entrust (fill in the blank with the situation) to Your care. In Jesus’ name.”
