“Now the mind of the flesh (which is sense and reason without the Holy Spirit) is death (death comprises all miseries arising from sin, both here and hereafter). But the mind of the (Holy) Spirit is life and (soul) peace (both now and forever).” (Romans 8:6 AMPC)
Soul peace is the opposite of what the world offers. The world screams pride and self-justification. Soul peace involves taking our thoughts captive, regretting past sins, and changing our old ways of thinking.
The key in this verse is giving our mind to Jesus and asking Him to fill it with the Holy Spirit. Soul peace involves honoring God by the choices we make. Wise choices, although sometimes difficult, bring peace.
Soul peace involves thinking as God would want us to think. Soul peace involves repentance. Changing your old ways of thinking is key to living in peace. Here we are given the definition of repentance. This kind of peace is a conscious effort to live in submission to God and follow Jesus. Following Jesus is all about loving Him and knowing how precious we are to the heart of God and how much He loves us unconditionally.
“From that time Jesus began to preach and say, ‘Repent [change your inner self—your old way of thinking, regret past sins, live your life in a way that proves repentance; seek God’s purpose for your life], for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.’” (Matthew 4:17 AMP)
Self Reflection:
- What do I think about?
- Do I choose to dwell on fears?
- Do my thoughts lead to soul peace?
- Am I willing to make hard choices to pursue His peace?
Prayer:
Jesus, I am so sorry for choosing fearful thinking and anxieties instead of peace. I want to change my thinking. Please reveal to me when I am thinking fearful and replace one fear at a time with your peace. Show me what I need to do or how I need to think in order to receive the gift of soul peace that You offer. I want to be restored like a cold wind on a hot day by the presence of the Lord. In Jesus’ name.
